“Flowers? For Spring? Revolutionary.”That’s what she said. Miranda Priestly from Devil Wears Prada. Probably one of the best and most remarkable lines of the 21st century, if you ask me. Immortal. The thing is to make floral prints in the spring is a cliche and so the line oscillates with it. Because it’s not revolutionary at all.

Zebra printing is a great Alternative to flowers.

Every year in the fall, they try to sell Plaid to us, and when spring comes, they want to sell us the classic floral print. Now guess what I don’t like when I’m told what to wear, and I don’t like to look like everyone else. In addition, we probably already have at least ten of these floral dresses and shirts in our closet. Am I right? And they scream Princess. Are we digging the fairy princess Look? Personally, I’m not. Do we desperately need a floral dress? No.

Even though the fashion industry is often seen as a purveyor of fresh new clothes, there is a Routine behind which it works. On the one hand, fashion trends are cyclical and always come back, but in a different form. In addition, no trend is as ubiquitous as flowers for spring. In fact, this is no longer even a trend, now their existence is Only part of the seasonal Fashion cycle. Of course, you can find floral prints all year round, but there is so much more about flowers that remind of the Season. Part of this is that there is a general consensus that a majority of flowers are in full bloom at this time of year and signal the beginning of new beginnings. And that, after a Season of dreary and gloomy weather (especially in the midst of a recent times), peaks of color are necessary to awaken the senses and feel feminine.

We will always have neutrals.

But let me tell you what I think. You don’t have to wear flowers all the time to feel feminine. Sweet reminder: everything can be feminine, it has nothing to do with an impression. The feminine is movement, Proportion, color! Feminine is draped, Patchwork and ruffles and it might not even be one of those things. You decide. You could even choose to wear something more capricious, more edgy and defy the usual meaning of spring dressing. Let’s face it, every brand produces floral prints because we expect it and they expect us to wear them. But do we really want to get into this box of what is expected of us, which is predictable?

There is nothing revolutionary about floral prints for the Spring / Summer season. But the way fashion brands are revising the use of pattern and incorporating it into the narrative of their collections can also be celebrated. For example, look at Hawaiian flowers at Gucci. It’s no longer enough to tap on a simple printed image of a flower; it’s the way floral prints are made and interpreted that can be revolutionary. So if you’re someone who naturally blooms with confidence and femininity (pun intended, sorry), you know you don’t need to wear flowers to reflect that. But if they make you happy, do it. Don’t we want our clothes to feel like that?
